Marcus, Tessa
Description: Tessa Marcus (PhD) is a sociologist educated at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom; the University of Lodz, Poland; and as a fellow of the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Formerly, she was professor of sociology and director of discipline in School for Human and Social Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg (1990 - 2000) and executive director: research promotions and support (2003 - 2006) at the NRF. Her fields of research are HIV and AIDS, rural and development sociology, and, most recently, the social relations of knowledge construction and production. She has produced numerous academic, popular and policy publications, which have been widely used by government as well as non-governmental and civil society organisations.
