Description: Duncan Brown is the Deputy Head of the School of Literary Studies, Media and Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He is also Overseas Professorial Fellow in the Ferguson Centre for African and Asian Studies at the Open University in the United Kingdom. His previous books include Voicing the Text: South African Oral Poetry and Performance (Oxford University Press, 1998) and Oral Literature and Performance in Southern Africa (David Philip, James Currey, Ohio University Press, 1999
